BRITNEY SPEARS: AMERICAN DREAM
iOS, Android
Britney Spears: American Dream is a mobile celebrity fantasy/RPG-style game. It was released on both Android and iOS on May 17, 2016.
The game follows the model of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood where the player creates their avatar, meets the game's celebrity, and becomes famous with the help of their new celebrity friend. The player spends energy to complete projects that help them gain fans, as well as song sales.
Unlike the Kim Kardashian game, Britney Spears: American Dream has a mechanic in which the player records a song and then must promote it via specific quests. These quests are denoted in the player's To-Do List with a music note. These quests allow the player's song to gain sales. As the player gets more sales, they move up the Global and Local Top Charts, which could be called leaderboards. The sales are influenced by several factors including: the player's fame, and what NPC's they invite to their projects.
Players are also able to create their own Record Labels within the game and invite their friends to join them. This gives players a special Record-Label-only chat room, in addition to the basic global chat room, that helps to engage players in social behavior.
The Top Charts, as well as the Record Labels were added as a way to engage our players socially. We wanted to have social mechanics that tied into the core loop and felt fun. I find that when I visit the global chat in-game, it's very rare that I see a player's name go by without a Record Label attached to it, and that feels like a success.
Overall, I believe that Britney Spears: American Dream turned out to be an engaging and enjoyable game. I've had a lot of fun working on it, and I'm proud to be a part of the team.
In particular, I have been responsible for writing up specs for certain features throughout the game, implementing quests, writing various bits of dialogue, and implementing various other pieces of the game such as scenes and the clothing store.
The iOS version of the game can be found here. The Android version is located here.
