Soul of the Machine is a 3D third-person action rail game.
Soul of the Machine started as a third-person adventure puzzle game. However, due to unforeseen issues, we had to significantly scope down the project into something more manageable.
The game turned into an action game where the player rides through the level on light rails gathering collectables for a high score. This gave the game a very arcade-like feeling.
Given the fact that the team had wanted to develop a game with a deeper meaning, I faced a major challenge as the narrative designer for this game. It was very difficult to come up with a meaningful narrative that could be conveyed to the player through the environment.
The narrative became an obscure part of the game that was never properly integrated with gameplay.
