Forsaken is a 2D sidescrolling point-and-click-esque game that is very heavily focused on the narrtive creating a poetic experience, or emotional experience, for the player.
The goal of this project was to elicit an emotional response from players. As the game progressed, the team got bogged down trying to figure out mechanics that felt right with the story, rather than focusing on the goal of the project outright and letting it flow from there. We decided that, despite the game not being a traditional example of fun, we were on the right path when we cut several mechanics from the game.
Overall, the project was a success, even if it only brushed the original goal with its fingertips.
Forsaken was chosen as one of the games to represent DigiPen at PAX2014 and was displayed for the duration of the convention at the DigiPen booth.
